Getting Started
Are your interpreters and translators certified?
We have both certified translators/interpreters, and highly experienced yet without certification.ย
If you are looking to get your official or court documents translated, do let us know and we will get a certified translator to attend to your case.ย
Which bodies certify your interpreters and translators?
The 2 main recognized bodies in Malaysia are:
1) ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ท๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ต ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ (๐ฃ๐ฃ๐ ): The Malaysian Translator Association, established under Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), a statutory body under the Ministry of Education. PPM is also a member of the International Federation of Translators (FIT). It deals with all aspects in the field of translation at large, particularly on international relations and social functions. Documents certified by PPM members are recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government of Malaysia.
2) ๐๐ป๐๐๐ถ๐๐๐ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ท๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป & ๐๐๐ธ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎ (๐๐ง๐๐ ): Administered by the Ministry of Education, ITBM oversees translation and interpretation services nationwide, especially for book publication and academic purposes.
Our founder is also a member of ITBM, PPM and the International Federation of Translators (IFT)ย
Some of our language experts also hold international certifications such as:
โ China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters, accredited by the China Human Resources & Social Security Department
โ National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NATTI)
ย
What about translators certified by court?
Courts do not โcertifyโ translators or interpreters, but they do appoint interpreters for criminal cases. At SpeakUp, we train our interpreters with professional language skills and supply them to the Kehakiman Malaysiaโs Foreign Interpretersโ Service unit. This unit assigns our interpreters to criminal cases across Malaysia.
Weโre here for your civil matters and business dealings too! If you want to connect with a broader audience, serve diverse clients, and develop your business in foreign markets, count on us for our expertise and dedication.
Do you translate voice or video recordings?
Yes, the process involves two steps. First, we will transcribe the voice or video file. Once the transcription is completed, we can then translate it into your target language. Please note that transcription and translation are separate services, and different charges apply to each.
Do you use AI for translation?
We offer two types of translation services:
Machine Translation (AI) with Human Post-Editing: This option is ideal for urgent translations, especially those involving technical terms. Our human translators refine the AI-generated text to ensure accuracy, consistency with statute books and official resources, and alignment with industry standards. This approach minimizes human errors while maintaining a natural and polished language style.
Pure Human Translation: For clients with specific privacy concerns regarding AI software, we provide fully human-translated content. Additionally, we take all reasonable measures to ensure your privacy and data security.
Account & Billing
How is my price determined
Translation (Written Words): We charge per word, ranging from RM0.20 to RM0.45 per word, depending on factors such as turnaround time, technicality, and complexity. A minimum charge of RM100 applies per order. Not all translations require certification, but if needed, certification fees will be charged separately.
Interpretation (Verbal Translation): Our interpretation services are charged by half-day or full-day sessions within the Klang Valley. For locations outside the Klang Valley, we only offer full-day services due to the travel time required by the interpreter.
Remote Live Interpretation: If you’re looking for a more cost-effective option, we highly recommend remote live interpretation. We will get you ready with the necessary software and device setup at both your and the interpreterโs location, allowing the interpreter to assist you remotely.
If my event/court case is rescheduled, what is your refund policy?
As a former legal practitioner, our founder understands the frustration of last-minute postponement of court proceeding. We also hear from the practitioners that many interpreters would forfeit 100% of the interpreter fees in the event of postponement.ย
Weโve come out with a fair & cost-effective approach to tackle this situation:
> 2 Weeks Notice:ย You can use the interpreter fees that youโve paid, for your matter on the rescheduled date
1-2 Weeks Notice:ย 25% of the Interpreter Fees will be charged. Remaining 75% of the Fees can be utilized for the rescheduled date.
Less than 1 Week Notice:ย 50% of the Interpreter Fees will be charged, to compensate the interpreters for their loss of income as they were not able to take up any other matter within such a short period of time.ย
Are there any additional fees for urgent translation?
Yes, rush translation requests require the team to prioritize your assignment over the others with a shorter turnaround time, hence a rush fee ranging from 20%-40% would apply.ย
What happens if I need revisions?
We offer revisions for accuracy and clarity within a reasonable timeframe after delivery. However, changes to the original content after translation may incur additional charges.
Do you offer discounts for bulk translation projects?
Yes, we may provide discounts for large-volume projects. Contact us for a customized quote.
For regular customers, we’d also create a term bank for you, catered to all of your translation requests, to make sure that the language style aligns with what you’re comfortable with. This also makes it more efficient for us to fulfil your future requests, resulting in a cost reduction.ย
Troubleshooting
What if my document contains images or non-editable text?
If text extraction is needed from images, scanned PDFs, or other non-editable formats, additional formatting or OCR (Optical Character Recognition) fees may apply.
If my document has specific formatting, can you maintain it in the final translation?
Yes, we generally follow the original font, spacing, and basic formatting of the document. However, if the document contains complex tables, structures, or requires significant formatting adjustments, a document formatting fee may apply.
Can you provide insights into the nuances of your translation, including slang and cultural context?
Yes. We donโt just translate word-for-wordโwe also help bridge cultural gaps by providing side remarks on tone, underlying meanings, and any culturally significant nuances in the translated text.
If you need these remarks for specific purposes, such as legal cases, please let us know in advance. Since some clients prefer a straightforward translation without annotations, we include these remarks only upon request.
